Vivian Neuwirth's story about John Kennedy Toole began as a fragment in her mind. It was a vague compilation of her memories of him as a teacher, her discovery of him as an author, and her reaction after hearing of his death. Fittingly, she decided to encapsulate her thoughts and emotion in prose, and began writing "Mr. Toole." After years of writing and re-writing, she had her first opportunity to share the story with others at the Estrogenius Festival. Since that first outing, "Mr. Toole" has grown, morphed, shifted and been given life by several teams of actors, directors, designers and productions. Each time, Vivian has kept her mind open and her pen at the ready, continually streamlining the play, with a focus to readying it for a large-scale production in the future.

July 2018 - Script reading with "Writers at Large" theatre group.
March 2017 - Invited to present "Mr. Toole" in the Tennessee Williams Festival, New Orleans. July 2016 - World premiere of full-length version of "Mr. Toole" presented at the Mid-Town International Festival, New York City.
March 2016 - "Mr. Toole" is expanded into a full-length play and given a developmental reading by the Estrogenius Festival organization.
October 2014 - "Mr. Toole" is presented as a one-act at the Estrogenius Festival in New York City.
